SUMMARY:Society Social Meeting - The Riverboat Project - "Canal" Walk
DESCRIPTION:The Canal Society walk this year will be on Tuesday 26 June. It will start at 7.00pm from the main steps of the Council House\, on the corner of Corporation Street and Derwent Street in Derby.   \n It will be a circular walk along the River Derwent from the city centre to Darley Abbey\, up one bank and back down the other. \n The main theme of the walk will be the Riverboat Project\, the objective of which is to instigate boat trips from Derwent Bridge to Darley Abbey. Explanations of how the project is being developed and how it will work will be given at various points on route. \n There will be a few stops along the route to point out historical aspects of this part of Derby. \n The walk is 3.5 miles long and is mostly flat\, with few gradients. \n

DESCRIPTION:Duncan Grewcock – ‘Restoration of Beeston Lock Cottages’\nThis is the final invitation of the year for our Society Social Meeting. \nOur speaker will be Duncan Grewcock from the Beeston Lock Cottage Project. He has been involved in the management team that restored the cottages. Their project is similar to our own cottage restoration work at Draycott and shows some of the challenges that were overcome and the impact that the successful completion has meant.  The old lock cottage at Beeston was restored using HLF funds and now operates successfully as a cafe with heritage. We had been in contact with the trustees there to get tips on our own project to restore our canal cottages at Draycott.
